Ine holds the pot of steaming soup in one arm and the lid in the other hand. He tilts it so we can see that it contains a creamy broth with chunks of potato and carrot. He smiles and says, "I'm kidding. It's creamy potato soup. No bugs, I promise." June sees the contents and smiles back saying, "Oh... Good! I love potato soup!" She then sweats nervously and says, "Not that there's anything wrong with, uh..." Ine puts the lid back on the pot and says, "It's fine. Cricket stew's not for everyone." He waves as he walks away saying, "Though if you ever wanted to try, I'd be happy to make you some!" June brings the pot of soup over to the table and says, "Keheh, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!" June sets the pot down, watching him leave, and then she lifts the lid again and peers inside, smiling and saying, "Mmmmm..."
Lark says…
That soup looks good, doesn’t it? We actually make potato soup fairly often in our house, so I’m pretty familiar with how it looks. We make ours with pureed potato, as well as chunks of boiled potato, carrots, peas, onions, and melted cheese. Sometimes we add broccoli florets. And then we usually add some kind of protein, like crumbled bacon or ham cubes. Hungry yet? 😄
June has mentioned before on a previous Q&A page that she has no sense of smell, but she can still taste. So she’s not smelling the soup in that last panel, but simply looking at it, and probably imagining how it’s going to taste. (Hopefully it doesn’t disappear too quickly!)
