Well Groomed 5

Transcript

Inside the hallway of June's apartment, June disappears into her room saying to herself, "Let's see… Where'd I put my…?" Meanwhile, Mally walks past, yawning loudly. She shuffles out of the hallway, feathers mussed and wearing a robe. She suddenly stops in surprise before exiting the hallway completely and notices Ine standing there in his swimsuit. Ine looks back at her with an embarrassed smile and waves saying, "Uh, morning." Mally stares at him for a moment longer before slowly backing away back into the hallway.

Behind the Scenes

Panel layout matters. Originally all six of these panels were going to be the same size. However, this made it a bit confusing to figure out which order they were meant to be read in. Do you go left to right first or top to bottom? Most Western readers naturally read left to right first, but any ambiguity can throw someone out of the story. So by playing with the panel sizes just a tad, I was able to offset the rows of panels enough so the reading order is more clear. The first panel (upper left) extends past the bounds of the fourth panel (lower left), so the eye more easily flows to the right instead of down. Anything you can do to make your comic an easier, clearer, and more pleasant reading experience is critical!
