Michelle and Lia continue walkig towards their apartment. Lia asks, "So... you'll catch the bar when I can't lift all that weight?" to which Michelle responds, "Ah, don't talk like that. You'll do fine." Taking out her keys, Michelle says, "Anyway, let's get a bite to eat. I'm starving." Perking up, Lia says, "Ooh, me too! What are you having?" Michelle smirks and glances back at Lia saying, "The usual." Lia wrinkles her nose and sticks out her tongue, saying, "...Another smoothie? So more of a slurp than a bite." Michelle suddenly glances down as her pocket starts to buzz. She holds up her cell phone saying, "You go ahead. I'm gonna take this." Lia waves and says, "Sure. I'll warm up the blender for you," with a laugh. Michelle turns to answer the phone, saying, "Hullo...? Yeah, this is she... Oh yeah?"

While working on the first couple pages for this chapter, I took some time to experiment with a few different methods for painting the spots and stripes on Lia, Michelle, and even the tiger girl on page 1. (The additional images above show some of these early attempts.) Some different approaches include drawing the spots/stripes individually, one at a time, using a pre-made pattern and selectively erasing where it isn’t needed, and using a special brush to paint on the patterns. Investigating each option took some extra time, but it should save time in the long run. In the end, I opted to use a pre-made pattern for the tiger stripes, though I thinned them out a bit and drew them manually on her face. I used another pattern for Lia’s spots, but used different spot sizes for her face and body. Finally, on Michelle I decided to just stick with drawing them on manually, since she doesn’t have as many stripes, and they’re simpler to draw.
