A calendar displays the month of August with most of the days crossed off. Ine says, "Morning, Mom," and she replies, "Good morning, Ine." Ine is nonchalantly sitting at the kitchen table in front of his laptop. His mom, a dark green lizard with blue stipes and a fin on her head, sits across from him. Ine says, "Two weeks 'til school starts. Guess I should find an apartment soon." His mom looks surprised and says, "You've just started looking?" Unworried, Ine says, "Yeah, there's still plenty of time, right?" Mom touches her chin thoughtfully and says, "Maybe, but pickings could be a bit slim." Ine looks surprised as she continues, "And another thing, how are you going to pay for an apartment? Have you found a job yet?" Ine fiddles with his fingers and grins nervously as he says, Oh, ah... I was kind of... hoping you and Dad might... help me out a little...?" Mom squints back at him, incredulously.
Lark says…
Ine sort of looks like a crocodile the way I used to draw him from the front, haha!
This page is the first look we get of Ine’s mom. Nearly everyone in the Aww, Feathers! universe is of mixed ancestry, but it shows more in some than in others. So while there may be other lizard species in her family tree, Ine’s mom identifies as a plumed basilisk. So what’s she doing so far from the Amazon? Good question. 😉
Ine is a mix of several lizard species, but unlike his mom, no single one of them stands out more prominently than the rest. So when asked, he usually says he is a “feathered water lizard”. He gets his stripes, slightly darker scales, and love of swimming from his mom. Where does Ine get his feathers from? That’s another good question!
Fun fact: Ine sometimes calls his mom “Dino-Mom” because as a kid he once saw a picture of a dinosaur with a crest on its head like hers, and the nickname stuck ever since! Why is her crest so prominent as a female of her species? You ask a lot of questions…
